Service Description

The Zorn Palette (also known as the Apelles Palette) comprises four colours thought to have been used by the Swedish portrait painter Anders Zorn (18 February 1860 – 22 August 1920). These colours are Genuine Cadmium Red, Ivory Black, Titanium White and Yellow Ochre. There is evidence that this palette has been in use by painters since the 4th Century BC. It is referred to today by many contemporary portrait tutors, both online and at in-person portrait workshops, as it is an effective framework of colour within which you can explore mixing skin tones with relative ease. Unlock the secrets of the Zorn palette in this immersive and hands-on workshop designed for artists of all skill levels. This session will guide you through the process of creating your own Zorn palette color chart, providing a comprehensive visual study and reference tool. By mastering the Zorn palette, you'll learn to mix primary colors and effectively manipulate a limited palette to achieve a wide range of warm, cool, and muted tones. The workshop will culminate in the production of a small portraiture study, allowing you to apply your newfound colour mixing knowledge in a practical setting. This workshop is ideal for students who wish to deepen their understanding of portraiture and expand their color mixing skills. With a maximum of 8 participants per session, you’ll receive personalised guidance and feedback from the instructor. Develop a comprehensive Zorn palette color chart for reference. Learn to mix primary colors to warm, cool, and mute tones. Complete a small portraiture study using the Zorn palette. Receive personalized instruction in a small class setting. Duration: 10am - 2pm Maximum Participants: 8 Materials: Canvases and all painting materials provided. Required: Students must bring apron/suitable clothing and brushes.
